Apple Cider Vinegar.. What’s the fuss about?

Okay, I have found a new love – the joy that isĀ Apple Cider Vinegar. As something that has been widely spoken about over the past couple of years, I decided to jump on the bandwagon to continue on my quest to beat the ‘belly bloat,’ I have to say this liquid does wonders in my opinion.

For those of you new to Apple Cider Vinegar, take a look at my list of benefits you can get from consuming it on a regular basis:

  1. Lowers blood sugar levels and can help reduce the risk of diabetes – this liquid gold can improve insulin sensitivity when eating carbs by up to 34%!!
  2. Aids in weight loss (in particular reduces stomach fat) – many studies have shown that apple cider vinegar can increase satiety thus helping you consume fewer calories and ultimately lose weight.
  3. Helps improve digestion – as it is a fermented substance, it contains good bacteria that allows your digestive system to work efficiently. For me personally, it has done wonders for my digestive issues and helped the dreaded ‘belly bloat’!
  4. Improve the condition of hair, skin and nails – The acetic acid in ‘the mother’ is said to help lower the pH of your hair therefore getting rid of the dry/frizzy feel. Further still, the antibacterial and anti fungal properties of apple cider vinegar mean that it works perfectly as an aid to improve skin and nails.
  5. It is said to help your immune system and prevent illness – preventing illness is better than having to search for a cure, in my opinion, so the healthy bacteria in the apple cider vinegar can help you not only recover sooner from illness but with good bacteria you can wave goodbye to constantly suffering with colds and coughs as your immune system will be peaking.

Quick tip: Ensure that you get apple cider vinegar with ‘the mother’ – this is the cloudy substance in the bottle that is believed to be high in natural protein and healthy bacteria. (I use ‘BRAGG – Apple Cider Vinegar with the mother’)

I tend to have a spoonful in the morning. It doesn’t taste the best but it brings your digestive enzymes to live and gets your stomach ‘ready’ to ‘receive food.’ I also try to use it as a salad dressing – if you really don’t like the taste you can mask it by adding it to tahini and lemon for a perfectly creamy and zesty dressing!

To summarise, since incorporating Apple Cider Vinegar in to my daily routine my stomach has thanked me for it. So give it a go and see if it can help you.
